To help our fellow
Ethiopian Jews, make a contribution thru Temple Sinai
Sisterhood. For more information about the support
organization go to The North American Conference on
Ethiopian Jewry (NACOEJ)
www.nacoejorg. This grassroots, non-profit
organization was founded in 1982 with four objectives.
The first is to help Ethiopian Jews survive in Ethiopia,
then to assist them in reaching Israel, and to aid in
their absorption into Israeli society. Finally, the goal
is to assist in preserving their unique and ancient
culture. Contact Sheila Firestone

Sisterhood President 561-391-4826 to contribute or
become involved in this mitzvah committee.

We collectively raise
money for food relief in Gondar, Ethiopia and for
scholarships for High School Students in Israel, paying
for their fees and school necessities. This is an
ongoing Sisterhood project.

Temple Sinai's
Social Action
Committee
is dedicated to providing opportunities to do Mitzvot
and acts of kindness, coordinate interfaith programs and local
guest clergy to speak at Friday evening services, and support Israel in many ways through creative
projects.
Some
annual projects include:
"High
Holiday Food Drive"
which benefits two local Food Banks: The Caring Kitchen in
Delray Beach and Forster Family Kosher Food Pantry in Boca Raton.
"Teddy
Bear Drive"
during the entire month of December which benefits sick and
injured children in two Israeli hospitals:
Emek
Medical Center in Afula and Schneider Children's
Hospital in Petach Tikvah. This project encourages Temple members and friends
to donate small, new teddy bears or other stuffed animals.
"Mitzvah Day"
is an afternoon at Temple performing acts of kindness which directly impact
our community and Israel. Young children work
alongside parents and grandparents making peanut butter sandwiches
for after school programs in the community, fold donated clothing
to be donated to organizations, decorate "Thinking of You" cards
to be sent to two hospitals in Israel, and other
worthwhile projects.
This
committee has also coordinated a
spring "Food
Drive"
in collaboration with the Sisterhood sponsored Women's Seder.
Guest
speakers for
Interfaith Services
are also arranged through Social
Action, especially for the annual winter Brotherhood Shabbat.
Members of other local congregations are invited to share their
thoughts as short sermons and their members are invited to join us
at Temple
Sinai along with their
spiritual leaders at our Friday services.
Social
Action Committee members collect Friday evening
Tzedakah
and arrange for
Bimah flower
distribution
following Saturday morning services to ill or homebound members.
These special people welcome the flowers and the visits.
Meetings for Social Action take place on the third Wednesday of
the month at Temple in the Garden Room at 7:30 PM. New
members and new ideas are always welcome!
