Brotherhood Sisterhood Youth Group Bereavement Chavurot

We offer many social and support groups for members of all ages, interests and needs.  If you want to join a group you don't see here, speak with the Rabbi or President to see if you can start one!

Our Brotherhood

The Brotherhood is a strong service and financial arm of the temple, sponsoring many programs such as Musical Shows, Single Dances, Holiday Parties and Israeli Scout Shows. The Brotherhood’s mission is to sponsor entertaining events for the Congregation and Community while raising funds to support the Temple.

The Brotherhood has planned four shows and one Special Performance for the 2007-2008 season. The dates are December 9th - Big Band Show, January 13th - High Tea at the Opera (Special Performance), February 10th - Klezmer Show, March 16th - The Magic of Jolson and April 13th - Classical Jazz-New Orleans Style. All shows will be on Sunday afternoon at 2 PM; with the High Tea at the Opera at 4 PM. Tickets for all shows and the Special Performance are now on sale at the Temple, or call the Office(276-6161)

In June 2008 the Israeli Scout Caravan returns to Temple Sinai with a great musical and entertaining program, with all proceeds going to Israel.

The Brotherhood Breakfast/General Meetings, with guest speakers, are generally held on the third Sunday of the Month, October to April, at 9:30 AM.  All are invited, especially your spouse or best gal, friends and buddies. Reservations are requested for this, by calling the temple Office.

The Singles Dances are held the first and third Wednesday of the month, year round, at 7:30 PM. The dance starts out with a short dance class, followed by open dancing until about 10 PM. A light refreshment and coffee is served during the dance. Everybody, singles and couples, are welcomed to these weekly dances.

Joining and participating in the Temple Brotherhood is a rewarding experience. We encourage all male members of Temple to become active members of Brotherhood. The Community is welcomed at all of our functions.

For more information, call our Brotherhood President, Manny Spunt, or e-mail him at MMSpunt@aol.com.

   Our Sisterhood

Our Sisterhood is the collective presence, voice and strength of the women of Temple Sinai.

We strive to create fun, educational and interesting programs and trips for all of the women (men are always welcome to join us) of our Temple.

All women of Temple Sinai are welcome and encouraged to become members of our Sisterhood. New Temple members are presented a complimentary first year membership (or part if they join during the year) in our Sisterhood. We offer Life Membership as well as yearly membership.

Sisterhood meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of each month unless otherwise noted. Our meetings generally begin at 11AM. An entertaining program is followed by lunch.

Our Rosh Chodesh meetings began last year and are a separate and inspirational way to enjoy each other's company and celebrate our heritage.

We look forward to seeing many of you at our meetings and programs.

Dolores Cowen, Sisterhood President

Our current focus is to participate in: Jewish activities – includes visiting museums, other Temples, the Jewish Film Festival, and participating in our own Sabbath Services Community Service – going out into the community to help others in need, learn leadership skills, and gather life experience Fundraising – raise funds for our group, Temple, and Religious School “FUN STUFF” – attend fun activities including movies, ice skating, and concerts while enforcing our connection to each other and our Jewish heritage.

Please join us for "Nosh and News" -- a Temple Sinai Teens fundraiser open to all temple members.  It is held from 9:30 AM to noon on announced Sundays, with timely topics discussed by all from 10-11 AM.  Please contact Shanna St. John at (561) 276-6161 or templesinaiteens@aol.com for more information about Temple Sinai Teens.

Bereavement Group

We are a group of people who are in various stages of loss addressing our grief.

In a warm and safe atmosphere, we support each other and develop trust and comradery.  Many times a person shares a strategy for coping that we can relate to.

Our goal is to heal our hearts, while moving forward with renewed strength and confidence, and perhaps even meet some new friends.

We meet each Tuesday from 2-3:30 PM.

Chavurot

A Chavurah is a Jewish "special interest group" composed of members with some interest (perhaps a hobby, prayer study, educational or current events topic, or even a sport) or personal characteristic in common, e.g., "empty nesters", youngsters, elderly singles. Most of these groups operate informally, started by a small group of friends within the community who wish to enjoy social activities or educational opportunities together.  If you wish to start a group we would be happy to help you organize!

Here are contacts for some Chavurot:

  • Craft Chavurah - Meets at Noon, every other Monday, at the Temple.  We have a full inventory of lovely hand-made items for children and adults.  Please call Bea Hoffman at 499-7519 if you are interested in joining the group, or making a purchase.  All monies received are donated to the Temple.
  • Golf (aka "Hackers") Chavurah - Contact Ava Schutzman, 272-0433.
  • Mommy & Me (listed under Activities) - Play group for little children and moms.
