Lois Wachtel has been the
Education Director of Temple Sinai since 1995. With the
expansion of Temple Sinai’s Pre-School in June 2006, she
has taken on the sole responsibility of directing the
Pre-School. In addition, Lois teaches Sinai’s Pre-K class,
but she believes, in her heart, that her children teach
her so much more than she could ever teach them. Miss Lois
prides herself on her students' ability to read, really
read, by the time they graduate and move on to
Kindergarten. A year has not passed that Lois has not
received thank you notes from various Kindergarten
teachers!
Miss Lois earned her Bachelor’s Degree
from California State University, Long Beach with a triple major in
Public Speaking, Journalism, and Theatre Arts. She has been involved
in Pre-School education for over 16 years and has developed BEGINNING
STEPS, an innovative program designed to teach pre-school children to
read using letter sounds, science, art, music, movement, and even
cooking. In addition, Lois has her Director’s Certificate and is an
active member of NAEYC.
In her spare time, she serves as a
reviewer for various Pre-School book companies, does needlepoint, and
attends concerts featuring her “favorite” student, her son, Adam, who
is a music major, playing a wide range of instruments.
One of Miss Lois’ greatest joys is
watching the faces of Sinai’s children each and every morning. Their
smiles assure her that Sinai’s Pre-School is doing something “right,”
because children really look forward to coming to class each day. Of
course, the hugs are the icing on the cake for Miss Lois.
